What critics are saying.

Curtain Up! Review – “Fat Ham”

If there is something rotten in Denmark, at least in Aurora, let there be delicious barbecue and a hilarious, romping good time. With a sobering look at masculinity, Fat Ham is a reminder that the resilient, boundless hope and energy of our youth may save everyone from dying in the final scene. In James Ijames’ Pulitzer Prize-winning drama, iconic characters and quotes from Hamlet come to modern-day life on stage at the Aurora Fox in this regional premiere.

Theater review: DCPA Off Center’s – “Between Us Review”

Between Us,” a trio of one-on-one plays imported and adapted from various playwrights for the Off-Center wing of the Denver Center for the Performing Arts, tries to answer those questions by offering delightfully contrived, face-to-face experiences you can’t get anywhere else.

(Tribune Arts Critic)

To the credit of director donnie l. betts, it’s all there in the film: the artistic triumphs and the colossal commercial defeats, the stylistic innovations and the feuds with other musicians, the generosity of spirit and the inevitable personal shortcomings.

Emperor Jones

Betts creates a dark, dense jungle in which mystical visions and tribal rituals play out. Through the fog he keeps clear the story’s narrative pulse.

Aurora Sentinel

In the end, it’s these two opposing characters that make for the most compelling moments in K2. Director betts and the two-man crew find the marrow of the story in a brutally honest production and, in the process, carve out new territory for the Fox. In a season that’s seen its fair share of creative risks with Something Wicked This Way Comes and The Wedding Singer, this one-act drama stands as a new accomplishment for the theater.
